With 60 miles of beaches along the Grand Strand and many inlets and creeks, indulging your desire for angling should be no problem. For offshore fishing, you can charter a boat for 1/2 day, 3/4 day, all day, or overnight. Feel the sea-spray hit your face as you traverse the ocean waves to land that whopper.
You can participate in one of the many tournaments that are hosted by area fishermen each year, or just go out for your own personal pleasure. During the annual Grand Strand Fishing Rodeo you can enter your catch from pier fishing, surf fishing, inlet or deep sea fishing. It funs from April to October and features over $10,000.00 in cash and prizes.
There are many piers in the area that you can cast from. Try the pier in Myrtle Beach State Park, Surfside Pier or the Pier at Garden City. Some piers may charge a minimal fee, but for the amount of fun involved, you will surely feel that it’s worth it.
If you’re more in the mood for shellfish, many areas have access to creeks, rivers and waterways where you can dig for clams, harvest your own oysters, or cast a net for shrimp. Maybe you can even talk an old-timer into showing you how to catch a crab with a chicken neck. So, grab a pole or a reel and head out to a river or the sea. Whatever your fishing need, you can fill it!
